Artist Statements
Artists are often called upon to make statements about their work. Whether speaking in lectures, talking in interviews, writing in electronic interviews, or writing for publication or public display, I've found this process to be very useful personally—so much so that I make it an integral part of my artistic practice.
Initially I resisted this call, feeling pictures should be seen and not heard. It is important to acknowledge that the primary mode of experiencing images is non-verbal. It was the realization that every time I spoke or wrote I learned something about my work that eliminated this resistance for me. Once it's brought out into the light of the day, what's understood by the subconscious intuitive mind can be better grasped by the conscious rational mind. Aligning the two produces powerful results. Many people have commented that they enjoy hearing me speak about my work in my lectures, seminars, and workshops. Now you can hear me speak too - online. While you listen, you may wish to browse one of the many galleries available online. Find out when the next statement is posted. Subscribe to Insights.
