What are some of the benefits of exposing yourself to more images?<\/p>\n

1 You\u2019ll see more possibilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The amazing variety of images (subject, style, context) will inspire you to try some of the things you see.<\/p>\n

2 You\u2019ll see more of what\u2019s been done.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Becoming familiar with a medium through its history, you\u2019ll see the sensibilities of eras, past fads, current trends, and enduring themes.<\/p>\n

3 You\u2019ll develop a repertoire.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Identifying successful techniques (composition, exposure, development) that have been repeated by many different artists is the first step to incorporating some of them into your practice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4 You\u2019ll see what hasn\u2019t been done.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once you know what\u2019s been done, you\u2019ll be able to imagine what hasn\u2019t been done and may fill that gap, either with a bit of twist or a giant leap.<\/p>\n

5 You may even combine things that have been done into new combinations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A little of this mixed with a little of that may become a new thing.<\/p>\n

There are more benefits to exposing yourself to more images, but isn\u2019t this enough to get started? The principle is simple. If you look more, you\u2019ll see better. I recommend you make it your lifelong practice. It\u2019s a pure pleasure.<\/p>\n
